Last night, during our funsail, we left marks in the water at the pond so we will have them to start racing immediately during the evenings.  We’ll try to setup a regular meeting time during the week (probably Wednesday evenings).

Remember the Anderson regatta this Saturday!  We’re expecting a great turnout.  Please click the link on the schedule to the left or contact us for more information.

We added a couple of new events this week and added a couple of larger area events to the calendar.  In light of the upcoming Mid-South-Sailing regatta in Anderson on the 19th, we’ve decided to get together for the next couple of Wednesday evenings to get tuned up.  We’ll meet starting around 5pm and sail until sometime around 7.  We probably won’t have formal racing but will try to have some marks in the water.  Contact myself or Tim for more information.

A couple of us are getting together for an informal “chase the rabbit” sail tomorrow evening at just after 5pm.  We won’t have marks in the water but may engage in some pursuit races … or we may just sail around.  This will be at Hartness Lake at our usual spot (see the directions page – link at the top of the website).  It’s supposed to be in the mid 70′s with with 10 to 15 mph wind!  Come join us if you can.

The Tri-Club Anderson Seawind Regatta is scheduled at Green Pond Yacht Club in Anderson, SC on September 19. It’s a FREE regatta that starts at 10am sharp. We expect somewhere around 20 Seawinds to attend! Join the fun! More information coming here soon – watch the event calendar to the left for updates.

The Greenville Model Yacht Club had a great sailing afternoon at what appears to have become our new home lake this past Saturday. Seven Seawinds, one Nirvana, and one US 1 meter showed up at roughly 11 am and we got in 6 or 7 races (I lost count!). Though we certainly will next time, we weren’t keeping a formal score this weekend. However, the lead was usually tightly contested by all – but through shear will, Jim (Anderson, SC) and Tim (Greenville, SC) found themselves at the front in nearly every race. Dan W. had some radio problems leaving him rudderless at one point and the dingy was called into action to safely retrieve him. Dan just let us know that he ordered one of the newly discovered “Hobby King” 2.4Ghz radios that can be had for $29 WITH a receiver (www.hobbyking.com)! Shipping charges are reportedly a little high, but it still comes out to less than the price of a typical receiver alone. We’ll keep you posted on Dan’s progress with the new radio. Also of interest Ted Bogardus (Greenville, SC) sailed a borrowed Seawind and had such a great time that he ordered a Seawind kit as soon as he got home! We hope to get Ted on the water with his new boat in short order.

The new lake showed promise for good breeze and although the wind wasn’t from a more typical (and usually more consistent) direction, we did have a generous 8 to 10 knots that would typically shift through about 10 degrees. We’re all pretty excited about the momentum that is building in Greenville and we’re working to schedule our next event and establish a regular outing period. We hope all of you can join us soon to experience our new lake – we’ll keep you posted

    Best Regards,

    Jake Kohl
